NaNoWriYe Day 30

35K! Woo!

Got a lot of red numbers in this excel chart (i.e. below recommended amount for the day). I can't find it in myself to care, mostly because I sort of lost count between the 26th and today, but I sort of clumped it all up into two or three days. So yeah.

The Seventh Druid hit a wall, which I'm going to dig myself through in February, hopefully.

NaNoWriYe Day 20

Because I'm a total idiot, I got stuck on The Seventh Druid, read some really great Harry Potter fanfic, and got the itch.

Yes, well, I've now started a brand-new epic, after finishing my last one (which still needs major, massive, ridiculously amounts of editing), involving five years post-war, an investigative journalist of my own creation, Severus/Harry, and maybe Kingsley/Blaise, if I am so lucky. And a het pairing that I'm not quite sure of yet.

I'm reluctant to pair my OC with anyone canon, though. :/ But in any case, the fic is HBP compliant, not DH, and will probably have lots of secrets and not much sex.

Meh.

I've only just started, give me a break.

In other writerly news, English class Free Choice Writing has begun and I've started (and gotten stuck on) a sort of detective short story that involves a shipwreck and smuggling cadavers, a retired police officer married to a retired investigator, and a lovesick romance writer as the retired police officer's sister.

I dunno. I think I'm crazy.

Much later:

I'm utterly mad.

NaNoWriYe Day 16

Passed 22K by some miracle about two hours ago. Should probably be working on my history project. Meh. Procrastination, what can I say?

The new link, "How Good is This?", is a blog from an OLD, OLD friend that I haven't kept in touch with since... summer of last year, I believe. (bad Shona!) Of course, most of that can be blamed on my computer melt-down, losing every link I owned, and my faulty memory in combination, but I don't like excuses.

So, soy sorry, Jim. Congrats on your relationship with Traci and the arrival of that ADORABLE doggie THAT I WANT FOR MYSELF, Eddie.

I'm glad I'm back in touch. ^_^ He has my favorite blog of all time, so I'm super happy I have the link again. Of course, he succeeded in melting my brand-new speakers (metaphorically speaking) with that horrible Tom Cruise video he posted. I think I about lost my marbles listening to that guy. >_> Click the link. You'll see what I'm talking about.

You might want to borrow some speakers.

Clip of the day:

And in Ireland, the Celts thrived before the iron fist of Caesar came down on them. The Celts knew their business They knew of the Other places -- that there was more than Earthen, Heaven, or Hell. They believed -- they kept the gods alive. They kept the tales true, kept them going, even through the aching rule of Caesar and the maddening reign of Augustus. The druids continued their practice, their magic-weaving and healing, their role as aides and messengers.

Until at last, new words were created:

"pagan" and "infidel", "myth and "lies", "religion" and "One God".

NaNoWriYe Day 14

Consistency Challenge is OVER! Wooo!

Part I has finally finished, meaning I'm now exploring the Otherworld. Current word count:

Circle of Nimue: 13,889
Butterfly Arc: 4,368
Random other stuff: ~1,000
Total: ~19,000

That number is, in fact, 1K off. So that's my goal for TONIGHT.

I WILL HIT 19K BEFORE MIDNIGHT.

Watch me. *shifty eyes*

In other news: the meet-up with Angelic Ambyance was a success. ^_^ She is awesome, doesn't breathe while she talks (seriously, she has gills or something, I admire her), and we're going to set up a nice writing buddy thinger. Somehow.

Also, my other writer buddy liked her, so whoo!

AND SWEENEY TODD DRIPS IN EPIC, EPIC WIN!

Clip of the Day:

"Never look back..."

"See what the future holds," he finished their childhood quote.

Time froze there, just then, in that lab. Around them, the world crystallized, turned into ice around her gun and his bright red Converses. He saw it then, in the limpid amber pools of her eyes, in the reflective brandy-colored jewels of her irises. He saw everything. He moved his hand and time shattered like an axe through ice, sending shards of it flying away from them in slow motion.

He leaned forward and smiled, hovering an inch away from her face. "I can see the future in your eyes."

"That's the only place it should be."

NaNoWriYe Day 11

2:30 p.m.

Haven't written anything today, I'm doing this from the school's computer lab. Oh, wait... I sneaked in about 200 words during Spanish class. (Yeah...heh.) Write the rest when I get home, I guess.

Meeting AngelicAmbyance/Amber at Western Plaza on Sunday. WOO! So excited. Western Plaza, Sunday 13, 5 pm for dinner and chatting, 6:30 pm for Sweeney Todd! < For those of my friends reading this blog). [Also, parranda tomorrow at 9 pm at Western, but I doubt I can go. Meh, and a Sol d'Menta concert tonight at 11:30 pm...ishk. SO MANY THINGS! No time. Suckaaaaage...]

And only 3 more days (counting today) for the Consistency Challege. Finish that, and I'm gonna break down for school.

7:30 pm

1.2 K written, and more coming! I am apparently inspired tonight. So, only two more days to polish off the consistency challenge! :) Also, I finished the Why Reed essay for my college application, AT LAST. Only one more essay, for Marlboro (Why Marlboro). Yishk. All these colleges wanting ego-boosts...

Clip of the day:

Lithe, elegant fingers danced over the cracks and knots in the grain. Sparks flew from her tips and Brigit swore she saw something green. Before her eyes, roots took hold of the edge of the table and something started to grow.
"There is still some good in this word, Brigit O'Shalley."
The sprout extended from its young green stalk and Brigit stared at it, eyes unwavering. A flower, a tiny closed bloom, and then as if sunlight had hit it and Brigit was watching in fast forward, the flower bloomed entirely, unfurling smooth petals and lifting out long pollen stalks.
Blue.
Deep, perfect blue, true blue, like the sky or the deepest ocean.

NaNoWriYe Day 8

Progress: 1.2 K made tonight. Mayhaps more later if I feel like it. >_>

Not bad. Missing only 1 story in the Butterfly Arc, which shall be full of smut, love, closure, and riding off into sunsets. Or something.

The Seventh Druid has finally gotten to the meaty part. It's about bloody time, I say!

Today's clip:

"I suppose you want me to let go of the messenger, too?" he sneered. Brigit snorted.
"Of course not," she dripped in sarcasm. "I'm perfectly happy with you making off with her to your tallest tower in Never-Never Land." The thief tightened his grip on the knife and drew blood. Marchudd didn't even hiss.
"You don't impress me, Brigit." The Fae messenger had wormed one hand into her cloak pocket, searching for something. "What are you going to do? Monkey-boy here has his dagger to my throat and this foreigner has his sword with mine."
"Perhaps, Marchudd, you should pay less attention to me and more attention to your surroundings," she said wryly. He whirled his head around – the dagger scratched along his throat, exposing flesh and blood – he cringed, his grip loosening – and the Fae jabbed his stomach with her tiny throwing knife – again, and again, and again.
"You – bitch!"

Life Rules #1-9

LIFE RULES: On the Dangers of Sunglasses and the Effusiveness of USB Drives

Life Rule #1: NEVER wear sunglasses while playing soccer. You may get hit in the face by the ball and bleed all over because they dug into your nose.

(Andy, never scare me like that again. You just... REBOUNDED off the ball and fell to the ground. You stood up really slow and went "Oh, I'm fine!" and you had blood seeping down your elephantine nose. @_@ Jebus Crisco.)

Life Rule #2: Always keep your USB on some sort of chain so you don't forget it. Always. Because they have the nasty habit of getting fuckin' lost

(I just lost my USB with two years worth of writing and my school stuff on it. Crap. >_> Second one I've lost)

LIFE RULES: On the Futility of Scholarships and the Importance of Secrets

Life Rule #3: Always apply for more than one scholarship. When denied you have other options.

(Fuck you, Coca Cola.)

Life Rules #4: Never tell your mother things that might conflict with your own personal plan, unless you can get something out of it.

(Postponed driving lesson, here I come.)

LIFE RULES: On the Meaning of Hope and the Joys of Relaxation

Life Rule #5: Always have hope, even though humans are naturally wired for optimism.

(Yay for finding my USB!)

Life Rule #6: When you have the time, relax, because you won't get it again.

(Borders. Six hours. Yum.)

LIFE RULE: On the Necessity of Lists

Life Rule #7: ALWAYS MAKE A SHOPPING LIST

(I can't decorate my journal until I have double-sided tape, craft glue, and packing tape or something to laminate. >> I just went to the mall on Saturday and COMPLETELY FORGOT [due to the six mind-numbing hours in Borders]. Bloody HELL.)

LIFE RULES: On the Nature of Deadlines and the Truth about Essays

Life Rule #8: NEVER leave things to the VERY LAST GOSH-DARNED MINUTE. Ever. ^_^ You will inevitably end up stressed, over-worked, tired, grumpy, grouchy, and laughing like a psychopath. Little children WILL run from you.

(Shit. KNEW I should have done these essays earlier....)

Life Rules #9: When writing an essay, please to be checking your grammar and things. That way you won't feel like an idiot when you read it the next morning. Also, try and drag your muse back from Cancun, or wherever the hell she is.

(So tired of editing essays. So very very tired.)

------------

This is something I started at LJ -- I'll continue it here.  Wanted to have the first ones so you could see them!  Dates: December 2007 (4, 5, 8, 10, 31).

I might be moving more things from my nanoshona LJ to here, later.

Introductions, NaNoWriYe, and the Truth Behind Insanity

(Livejournal, face it, you really pissed me off.  You need to fix the relationship between CSS and adverts.)

Now that my minor rant is over, hi there!  I am Shona.  I am a writer, an artist, a photographer, a Hispanic woman, an actress, and more.   I am also sarcastic.  Kay.

I am participating in National Novel Writing Year (which is currently changing hosts).  Going for 200K!

As of today, Day 6, I am at... approximately...maybe 13K.  I had a NaNoWriDay/Night yesterday. Bleck, I'm still tired from it!

I am insane?  Yes.  I am.  But if you're reading this still, it probably means you're attracted to it. ;)
